Congrès Inc. donated stockpiled food to organizations implementing food bank activities
On April 4, 2023, Congrès Inc. donated approximately 700 units of famous Japanese balanced nutrition food snacks, "Calorie Mate Long Life (chocolate flavor)" to Second Harvest Japan, an organization engaged in food bank activities. These items were part of Congrès' emergency supplies and were provided to support the organization's activities.
As part of our Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and to prepare for emergencies such as earthquakes, we maintain a stock of disaster preparedness supplies. Since the expiration date of approximately 700 units of Calorie Mate Long Life (chocolate flavor) from our Tokyo headquarters approached, we sought a way to reduce food waste and decided to donate them to Second Harvest Japan.
Second Harvest Japan, the first food bank organization in Japan, operates under the principle of "Food for All." In 2020, we also donated approximately 300 units of dry bread from our Tokyo and Osaka headquarters to the same organization, which were distributed to welfare facilities and individuals in need.
Food bank activities involve collecting food from manufacturers that is still safe but difficult to sell due to issues like packaging errors or nearing expiration, and providing it free of charge to welfare facilities through NPOs. This initiative helps reduce food waste and supports those in need, contributing to several of the SDGs: "1. No Poverty," "2. Zero Hunger," "12. Responsible Consumption and Production," and "17. Partnerships for the Goals."
Congrès has established 4 materiality themes (priority issues or key challenges) as part of its sustainability policy, and committed to addressing social challenges through our business and corporate activities. We will continue these efforts in the future.
