ICCA Releases 2025 International Conference Statistics : Japan Achieves 6th Place Globally for the First Time

The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) has announced the results of the Business Analytics - Country & City Rankings 2025, published by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
Key highlights are as follows : 

  • A total of 12,438 international conferences worldwide were held in 2025, representing a 12% increase compared to 2024.

  • Japan hosted 491 international conferences in 2025, up 15% from 428 meetings in 2024. Japan ranked 6th globally, achieving its highest-ever position since the ICCA statistics were adopted as a national performance indicator in 2017.

  • In the Asia-Pacific region, Japan remained the top-ranked country for the fourth consecutive year since 2022, ahead of China (326 meetings), the Republic of Korea (286 meetings), and Australia (241 meetings).

  • In the Asia-Pacific city rankings, 19 Japanese cities were listed among the top 85 cities hosting five or more international conferences.

  • In addition to major metropolitan areas such as Tokyo, Osaka, and Yokohama, regional cities including Matsue, Nara, Kagoshima, Kumamoto, and Takamatsu also recorded increases in the number of international conferences. The number of Japanese cities hosting at least one international association meeting exceeded 70, an increase from the previous year.
