Driving Decarbonization in the MICE Industry - Congrès and Zevero Launch Collaboration

Congrès Inc. (Head Office: Tokyo; President: TAKEUCHI Noriko; hereinafter "Congrès") and Zevero (Head Office: Tokyo; Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer: TANIUCHI Shigeo; hereinafter "Zevero"), a global startup supporting corporate decarbonization management, have launched a collaboration aimed at promoting decarbonization in MICE and advancing sustainable MICE initiatives.

Creating a New Standard through the Fusion of Decarbonization and MICE

As climate change emerges as a shared challenge for the international community, MICE--including international conferences, medical conferences, exhibitions, and events--is no exception. Consideration for greenhouse gas (GHG, primarily CO₂) emissions generated by events is no longer merely a requirement or added value, but is increasingly becoming a criterion that questions the very significance of holding such events. Reflecting this paradigm shift, the MICE industry is now expected to engage in serious efforts toward decarbonization.

Through this collaboration, Congrès-- a company engaged in the comprehensive MICE business and committed to addressing social issues and revitalizing communities through  international conferences, exhibitions, and MICE facility management--and Zevero, a specialist in the visualization and reduction of GHG emissions, will combine their expertise to establish a robust support framework for decarbonization in MICE.

Zevero has a proven track record of supporting companies of various industries and scales, including Asahi Group Japan, Ltd., HAKUBA VILLAGE, and Suigei Brewing Co., Ltd., providing end-to-end assistance from GHG emissions accounting to the formulation and implementation of reduction strategies.

Congrès, on the other hand, manages 244 conventions annually (as of 2024), including international conferences and medical conferences, and operates approximately 90 facilities nationwide, such as MICE facilities (international convention centers & exhibition halls, conference halls) and cultural facilities. In addition, as the Japan office of the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS-Index), Congrès has been promoting sustainability from multiple perspectives, including formulating strategies, bidding, and planning initiatives that leverage MICE for regional revitalization and urban development.

By combining Zevero's expertise in GHG reduction with Congrès's capabilities in MICE planning and management, this partnership will create an effective framework for action. As a partner that transforms sustainability from a 'concept' to 'practice,' the two companies aim to establish a new standard for the MICE industry.

Key Initiatives under the Collaboration

Through this partnership, the two companies envision working together in the following areas, leveraging their respective strengths to expand decarbonization efforts across the MICE sector:

  • Supporting the visualization and reporting of GHG emissions at conventions (international conferences and medical conferences)

  • Providing consulting services for municipalities and DMOs on "Decarbonized MICE Attraction" strategies

  • Jointly developing "Environmentally Friendly Event Packages"

  • Supporting the visualization and reporting of GHG emissions for users of MICE facilities managed by Congrès
